Oggi è a Torino con una delle nostre più care amiche, Martina. Da lì non mi ha mandato solo la recensione, ma anche le foto che le ritraggono insieme a spasso per la città. Quando abitavamo a Parigi erano entrambe alla continua ricerca di negozi di musica! 

Con la sua ironia e competenza scrive su LesMademoiselles per arricchire il blog di una delle arti che più ha arricchito la nostra vita: la musica. Oggi mi ha mandato questo pezzo sui Daughter. Buon divertimento, Laura.

Today she is in Turin with one dear friend of ours, Martina! When we lived in Paris they always looked for music shops! 

Federica (LaFetch) collaborates with LesMademoiselles in order to enrich the fashion blog talking about one of the art which has more colours in life: Music. Today she will talk about the Daugther, with the irony and the impudence that inscribe her.

Daughter - If you leave

Questo trio britannico è arrivato alle mie orecchie per aver fatto una cover del super tormentone estivo che è stato Get lucky dei Daft Punk. Quando è partito il pezzo mi sono chiesta se non avessi letto bene ed in realtà la cover fosse stata eseguita dei The xx. Il timbro vocale di Elena Tonra, in effetti, è estremamente simile a quello di Romy Madley Croft. In ogni caso, mi hanno incuriosita e, anche sotto consiglio di amici, ho ascoltato i loro due EP (His young heart e The wild youth, entrambi 2011) e li ho trovati carini. Sì, carini, nulla di più. Ho trovato tante, forse troppe, analogie con altri gruppi a loro precedenti per definirli qualcosa più che carini. Insomma, ok che la 4AD fa da trait d'union, ma qua c'è fin troppo Bon Iver per i miei gusti.

Sono stata così tanto innamorata di "xx" e di "For Emma, Forever Ago" che non può che piacermi riascoltare brani con atmosfere analoghe, per carità. Però, forse consiglierei ai cari Daughter di virare un po' e di andare verso un terreno più personale (e sia chiaro, con 'personale' non intendo 'intimo', anche perchè i testi attuali ci conducono già a sufficienza nella vita privata dei loro autori).

Daughter - If you leave

The first time I heard this British trio was because they made a cover version of the Daft Punk's summer torment Get Lucky. When the song began I asked myself if I hadn't got wrong in reading the name of the artist and in the reality the cover was played by The xx. Elena Tonra's timbre, in fact, is extremely similar to Romy Madley Croft one. By the way, they intrigued me and so, also on some friends' advice, I listened to their two EPs (His young heart and The wild youth, 2011 both) and I found them nice. Yes, nice, nothing else. I found a lot, perhaps too much, similarities with other antecedent bands, for giving them the possibility of a better"judgement" than nice. Hence, ok that 4AD is their trait d'union, but here we can find way too much Bon Iver in my opinion.

I've been so much in love with "xx" and "For Emma, Forever Ago" that it can't be nothing else than a pleasure to listen to similiar atmospheres, for Heaven's sake. Though, maybe I'd advice to my dear Daughter to change a little bit direction and go toward a more personal territory (and let it be clear that with 'personal' I don't mean 'intimate', even because the current lyrics already lead up in the very private life of their authors)
