Dopo un breve periodo di silenzio, ecco il ritorno della penna che ci consiglia le novità da ascoltare! Federica Farassini torna a farci canticchiare, la torinese ventiseienne che ascolta musica ogni minuto libero che ha, quest'oggi ci recensisce i Pontiak. A porre fine ai giorni di "silenzio" del blog, che guarda caso coincidono con la sessione d'esame di Tor Vergata, è proprio lei: cantante e appassionata di musica, irriverente e critica, la mia carissima amica detta LaFetch, collabora con LesMademoiselles per arricchire il blog con una delle arti che più ci appassiona: la musica! E' passato un po' di tempo, lo so. Per farmi perdonare ho scelto
un album fresco fresco di stampa. E' il settimo lavoro in studio dei tre
fratelli barbuti, nati e cresciuti nella fattoria di famiglia in Virginia, USA,
dove continuano a vivere e a lavorare (http://vimeo.com/51020183). Questi tre ragazzi
(sì sono solo in tre ma fanno un bel casino) diciamo che amano tenere volumi e
frequenze alte.
Ho fatto la loro conoscenza un paio d'anni fa, quando un mio
amico dall'Italia mi disse (a quei tempi ero in Erasmus a Parigi, insieme a
Laura) "stasera c'è un concerto che non ti puoi perdere dalle tue parti, i
Pontiak", fu così che seguii il consiglio e andai a vederli esibirsi
all'International. Ricordo che scesi le scale, per recarmi nel seminterrato
buio e fumoso, quasi a disagio sia per il fatto di essere lì da sola, sia per
il fatto di non conoscere la band che stavo per ascoltare. Beh, vi assicuro che
sono uscita dal concerto più gasata che mai. Mi ero concentrata a pieno su
quello che stavo vedendo, ma soprattutto quello che avevo visto era stata una
delle performance più pazzesche degli ultimi tempi. Nel live ci mettono anima,
cuore e tanto sudore, e negli album anche. Infatti dopo averli visti live,
ovviamente, ho iniziato ad appassionarmi e mi sono ascoltata la loro
discografia che a mio avviso ha raggiunto il picco massimo con Echo Ono (2012,
Thrill Jockey). Devo dire che stavo aspettando Innocence con molta aspettativa
e, come spesso accade, eguagliare il precedente (grandioso) album è dura.
Nonostante ciò siamo davanti ad un gran bel lavoro, decisamente esplosivo che
tende a virare lo stile della band dallo psych-hard verso un territorio decisamente
più stoner, un po' più incazzato diciamo, con qualche ballad qua e là che da un
po' di tregua alle orecchie.
Consiglio d'ascolto: cuffie a massimo volume (o forse no).
It's been a while, I know. But for being forgiven I chose a
brand new album. We're talking about the 7th studio album of the three bearded
brothers, born and grown up in the family farm in Virginia, USA, where they

Let's say that these three guys (yep, they're only three but they make quite a
mess) love
to turn frequencies and volumes up.
I firstly knew them about two years ago, when a friend from
Italy (at that time I was an Erasmus in Paris together with Laura) told me
"tonight there's a venue you can't miss, Pontiak", so I accepted the
advice and I went seeing them at the International . I remember that I climbed
down the stairs a little bit uncomfortable since I was there alone and I didn't
know the band I was about to listen. Well, I can assure you that I came out
from that concert more hyped up ever. I had completely focused on what I was
listening to and, most of all, what I was listening was amazing. In live they
really rock and in studio they do it either. In fact, after having seen them, I
became fond of them and I listened to their discography that, in my opinion,
reached the highest point with Echo Ono (2012, Thrill Jockey). I have to say
that I was waiting for Innocence with a lot of expectation and, as it often
happens, to equal the previous (great) album is not always that simple. Despite
this we're in front of a really good work, decisively explosive that tend to
change direction of the band's style from psych-hard toward a definitely more stoner
territory, a little bit more pissed off I'd say, with here and there some
ballad that cuts our ears some slack.
