Eccoci con l'appuntamento che abbiamo con LaFetch, Federica Farassini di Biella, cantante e ormai rinomata critica di musica. L'ultima volta che l'ho vista eravamo qui a Roma, mi ha fatto una sorpresa durante la mia festa di laurea. Oggi ci parla del bel Paolo Nutini e del suo nuovo album!

Paolo Nutini - Caustic Love

How could I not review the last album of Paolo Nutini?

I follow him since his debut and I've never lost any of his video on youtube (since I haven't got yet the chance to go and see him live). The first memory about him is about the video of Rewind that I saw a whichever morning while having breakfast, it's been too long ago. I admit that the first thing that got my attention had not been exactly his music, but mostly the fact that he's incredibly good looking. Then I listened to the album (These Streets, Atlantic Records, 2006) containing some nice songs, but that didn't convince me completely. The same happened with Sunny Side Up (Atlantic Records, 2009), that was introduced by the amazing Candy, but that then turned towards some too much reggae sonorities and forcedly funky. And here we are talking about the Caustic Love (Atlantic, 2014), that sees Paolo in the role of singer-songwriter and solo producer, abandoning Ethan Johns and his sounds. Excellent choice. It derives an album that doesn't bore, with a lot of Soul and r&b influences, an impressive sounds care and with an outstanding vocal and compositive ripeness. The two songs that forestalled the album, Scream (Funk My Life Up) and Iron Sky (that, in my opinion, is his best work since now), created a huge expectation around this work, that I admit that hasn't been let down. Songs as Cherry Blossom and One Day deserve the purchase of the album.

I suggest everyone to watch some live video on youtube in order to see the quality of contemporary music played analogically (two thumbs up for the horns and for the bass played loud!)

Come esimermi dal parlare del nuovo album del buon vecchio Paolo Nutini?

Lo seguo, infatti, attivamente dal suo primo disco e non mi sono mai persa un suo video su youtube (non avendo mai avuto l'opportunità di vederlo live). Il primo ricordo che ho di lui è del video di Rewind che vidi su Mtv una mattina qualsiasi facendo colazione ormai troppi anni or sono. Ammetto che la prima cosa che mi attirò non fu una particolare velleità musicale, ma il suo essere esageratamente figo. Poi ascoltai l'album (These Streets, Atlantic Records, 2006) contenente alcuni bei pezzi, ma non convincente fino in fondo. Stessa cosa per quanto riguardò Sunny Side Up (Atlantic Records, 2009), che si presentò col singolone pazzesco che fu Candy, ma che per i miei gusti virava troppo verso le sonorità reggae e forzatamente funky. Ed eccoci a parlare di Caustic Love (Atlantic, 2014), che ha la particolarità di vedere Paolo come compositore, paroliere, ma anche come produttore in solitaria, abbandonando così Ethan Johns e le sue sonorità. Ottima scelta. Ne consegue un album che non stufa, con sonorità soul e r&b, una cura nei suoni da far rabbrividire e con una maturità vocale e compositiva notevole. I due singoli che hanno anticipato l'uscita del disco, Scream (Funk My Life Up) e Iron Sky (che a mio avviso è il suo pezzo fin'ora meglio riuscito), hanno creato un'aspettativa notevole sul disco, che devo ammettere non è stata delusa. Pezzi come Cherry Blossom e One Day valgono l'acquisto del disco. 

Consiglio a tutti di guardarsi qualche suo video live per vedere la qualità della musica contemporanea suonata analogicamente (evviva i fiati e il basso suonato ad alto volume!)

Bravo Paolino, hai fatto un disco della madonna! Alla facciazza di quelli che non ti prendono sul serio solo perchè sei un bel manzo (che comunque, sarò ripetitiva, non guasta mai).
